Hypnotherapy is a relaxing and effective form of therapy which works by communicating with the subconscious mind to help change behaviour patterns, belief systems and habits. In order for the subconscious mind to accept these changes the conscious mind needs to be quietened, hence the relaxed trance state a therapist induces, (hypnosis). Once the subconscious mind is open to change, new patterns of behaviour can be created.
Whether it be helping you to sleep better, to feel less stressed, to overcome a phobia / bad habit, or to feel more confident or positive, these changes and more can occur during hypnosis at the subconscious level, resulting in profound and lasting changes in your life. Using a computer analogy, imagine that your mind is a hard drive and that during hypnosis it is updated with new and helpful software, replacing the old redundant programs that are holding you back.
WHAT IS BEING IN HYPNOSIS LIKE?
Being in hypnosis is nothing to be afraid of. It is a totally natural state of relaxation between wakefulness and sleep. You are in this state many times during the day without even realising it, e.g. just before you go to sleep, when tying your shoe laces or when you are engrossed in a film when nothing can interfere with your focused state of attention. It is personal to each individual so not everyone reports having the same experience. Not only is being in hypnosis a very powerful tool for affecting change, it is also a totally relaxing and re-energising experience. It is said that 30 minutes of hypnosis is equivalent to 4 hours sleep! Additionally, the more times you practise going into hypnosis the easier and quicker it becomes to let go and enter this relaxing state the next time round.
USES OF HYPNOTHERAPY
For many years hypnotherapy has been used to accelerate healing and influence other mind/body processes and there are many research studies to back this up. You don’t need to read all the research studies to verify this, you can see if for yourself. If you imagine the taste and smell of a lemon you begin to salivate. If you think about something that embarrasses you extra blood flows to your face causing you to blush. These changes all occur because of what your mind thinks and it is this powerful mind/body connection that we utilize during hypnotherapy to create positive changes in your life. Hypnotherapy can be successful in reducing stress, IBS, insomnia, overcoming bad habits and phobias, weight loss, increasing confidence and motivation, pain relief, and much more.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
This varies depending on the individual and the challenges being addressed. Usually you can expect to need between 2 and 6 hypnotherapy sessions to bring about the desired change. You might also find that after resolving your original dilemma, you may want to continue hypnotherapy to help with other issues.
Upon arrival for the hypnotherapy session, time is spent discussing goals in more detail and considering possible practical solutions, following this the hypnosis begins. In the majority of times a hypnotherapy recording is given for the client to take home to listen to in between sessions. This will act as a top-up reinforcing the work done in the hypnotherapy session and will significantly speed up the process. For sleep hypnotherapy sessions, these recordings will also have the added benefit of helping clients to get to sleep at night time. If necessary EFT Emotional Freedom Technique will also be incorporated into the hypnotherapy session which clients are taught to do independently in your own home too.
HYPNOTHERAPY SUCCESS FACTORS
Due to the nature of hypnotherapy and individual mindsets, it doesn’t always work instantly for everybody. However as it's a natural therapy with no known side effects (apart from reduced anxiety and improved sleep!) it is certainly worth trying and seeing if it suits you, because compared to other therapies it offers much quicker results with a smaller amount of sessions needed. Please note, there needs to be 100% willingness, commitment and motivation from the client from the start, because if a client is at all resistant and closed off - they are not going to get the results they desire. So make sure you come to each session with an open mind and willingness to succeed.
DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SUGGESTIBILITY
For some clients a couple of sessions of hypnotherapy is like a magic pill and they achieve amazing results very quickly, whereas others need to put in more conscious effort to achieve the same results. This is due to a client’s different levels of suggestibility.
To allow for this variance Alex teaches clients with less suggestibility, techniques which they can do in the conscious state to help speed up progress and she also gives out complimentary hypnotherapy recordings for them to listen to in between appointments to compound what happened during the hypnotherapy session.
WHAT IS EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique and is based on the principals of Chinese medicine. It involves simple acutapping sequences on the body used to intervene in the body's meridian energy system, which as a result, releases negative pent up emotions and worries from the body and mind. It is a brilliant therapeutic partner to hypnotherapy and can be taught for use at home which is empowering and speeds up treatment. Depending on the client and what they need help with Alex may incorporate EFT into the session if she believes it will suit the client’s needs.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
24 hours notice is required to either change or cancel an appointment otherwise you will still be charged for the hypnotherapy session.
WHERE ARE SESSIONS HELD?
Alex sees her clients at the luxurious Chewton Glen Hotel and Spa in New Forest and in her clinic in Wimborne, Dorset and via Skype too.
